Black Agenda Radio · New York City Retirees Say No to Privatized Medicare

Michelle Keller is a retiree of District Council 37 and President of the New York City Chapter of the Coalition of Labor Union Women AFLCIO. She joins us from New York City to discuss the outcome of a labor agreement which attempts to force New York City retirees to accept a privatized Medicare advantage program to access free care. Should this plan go forward, they would have to pay nearly $200 a month in order to secure traditional Medicare. The matter is now before the City Council which will vote on a proposal to change the City’s administrative code and allow this plan to go forward.
